16 November 2014, Sweetcrude, Yenegoa – The Joint Military Task Force, JTF, operating in the Niger Delta with a codename ‘Operation Pulo Shield’ says it has arrested 10 suspected oil thieves in Bayelsa state.
The Joint Military Task Force in a statement by it its coordinator, joint media campaign centre, Col. Mustapha Anka on Sunday said that the arrest was made on the waterways of Brass in Bayelsa State, near the Nigerian Agip Oil Company Terminal.
Anka said the arrest was made possible following a tip-off by a concerned Nigerian who disclosed that a vessel christened MV Skye laden with substances suspected to be stolen crude oil was in the area.
The JTF Spokesperson also said the oil was allegedly siphoned from 2 vessels MV Cergen-D and MT Elimina earlier arrested for illegal oil bunkering.
The JTF emphasized that the Commander, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Atewe has set zero tolerance for oil bunkering, illegal refining, pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.
