Lagos — One Bello Abdulkadir, who was apprehended for posing as a Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company staff, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of N100,000 fine.

The sentence was handed down after he appeared before Magistrate Fatima Dewa of Kwanawa Magistrates Court in Sokoto.

The convict was apprehended by members of Gidan Haki community in Sokoto State for parading himself as a staff of the company and extorting money from customers.

He was subsequently handed over to men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for further investigation.

The suspect was later arraigned before the court in Kwanawa, where he pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced.

In a reaction, Kaduna Electric’s Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said the judgement was welcome, stating that Kaduna Electric is committed to working closely with communities and customers to fish out all persons sabotaging the company’s operations.

He commended Gidan Haki community for their efforts in apprehending the culprit without compromise.
