16 September 2013, Nairobi – Power consumers will pay about 300 million shillings more in their September bills on account of rising fuel prices. Kenya Power has gazetted an increase on the fuel cost surcharge from 5.07 shillings to 5.43 shillings per unit of consumption.
Consumers also face an increase in VAT on their power bills to 16 per cent from the previous 12 per cent. Low use consumers of 200 units or less per month are also no longer exempt from paying VAT under the new law.
