14 April 2014, News Wires – Netherlands-based Royal Dutch Shell and UK player BP have signed deals to supply liquefied natural gas to Kuwait, according to a Kuwait Petroleum Corporation official.
According to Reuters, KPC deputy director marketing Jamal Al-Loughani told the Kuwaiti Al-Seyassah newspaper that Shell and BP have been contracted to supply the country over the next five to six years.
He said on Sunday the companies would be delivering about 2.5 million tonnes per year.
Al-Loughani added the country would be signing a contract with a third company to buy LNG later this week.
Kuwait began important LNG in 2009 and signed deals with Shell and Vitol to supply LNG during peak demand periods over the past four summers.
Hot Middle Eastern summers and lack of domestic supply are keeping import levels high.
