8 March 2014, Lagos – This is good news for Land Rover Discovery fans in Nigeria. The Land Rover Discovery is now available with a powerful super-charged all-new V6 engine which out-performs the normally-aspirated V8 petrol engine. The new petrol engine delivers 250 kw and 450 Nm with emission of 285g/k. Improvement in fuel consumption is 12.01/100 km as against 14.11/00 km on the V8 engine.
The new engine was part of the new upgrading of the Land Rover Discovery which now has a refreshed exterior with distinctive badging, as well as extended navigation for unrivalled courage of Africa. Other changes on the Discovery include new wheels, and new colours to go with them as well as new technologies such as wade sensing and T-Junction camera.
Vanguard Motoring was among journalists from across the sub-Sahara Africa that test-drove the new Discovery in Botswana recently titled: “Discover the Africa you love-in the new 2014 Discovery.”
The test-drive was from Khwai (pride of Africa Tented camp) to Kasane airport in Botswana, having visited some villagers with officials of Jaguar Land Rover in Khwai to distribute mosquito nets as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility. The new Discovery proved itself as master of all terrain, as it contended with the tough terrain worsened by the heavy rain in Botswana. Sometime the journalists had to go through the bush part as most of the road were flooded. But the Discovery never disappoints. It finds a way where there is none.
The new Discovery, is the most fuel efficient Discovery ever made. It has raised the bar in luxury and Leisure ride with its new features in terms of engine performance, fuel efficiency, audio system, new range of driver assistance, comfort and safety. According to Nigel Clarke, Operations Director, Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa, “It is fitting and right that we launch the model year 2014 Discovery at the same time as we announce the Discover the Africa you love programme.” There has never been a vehicle more appropriate for discovering Africa than a Land Rover Discovery and it remains the perfect vehicle for people who enjoy living an active lifestyle.
Continuing, he said: “with the introduction of the supercharged V6, which supersedes the V8, we can now offer a more fuel efficient vehicle, and a number of other upgrades to make the acclaimed Discovery better than ever.” For 2014, the Land Rover Discovery has been given a new ‘face’ and numerous detail exterior changes.
Daytime running lights
The grille, front bumper and headlamps are all new while new daytime running lights with a distinctive LED signature and a more premium execution to the froglamp surround further enhances the Discovery’s appearance.
There are three types of headlights, vehicle grade-dependent. XS and S models use bi-halogen bulbs with a single Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) while the SE gets Xenon headlamps with Signature DRLs and flagship HSE models get the Adaptive Xenon version. To complement the design changes seen at the front of the vehicle, the rear light units receive a black mask for an especially clean look.
Two new alloy wheel designs have been introduced and, to give vehicles a heightened level of distinction, the optional ‘Black Design Pack’ remains available for 2014 models, featuring revised detailing and a choice of 19-inch or 20-inch black alloy wheels. New colours include Corris Grey, Loire Blue, Scotia Grey, Chablis and Luxor which have also been added to the palette.
In a change driven by form and function, the 2014 Discovery has redesigned exterior mirrors. They’re more aerodynamic than before but also support the introduction of new technologies: they house the cameras for the surround camera system, and the sensors for the all-new Wade Sensing system. In recognition of the Discovery’s established identity, the refreshed exterior design for 2014 also incorporates a change of identity. For the first time ever, the ‘Discovery’ name replaces ‘Land Rover’ on the bonnet and the number 4 will be removed from the tailgate leaving just the word ‘Discovery.’ Engine badging moves from the tailgate to an ingot mounted on each of the front doors.
