12 May 2014, News Wires -A contractor at a Todd Energy field in New Zealand’s Taranaki basin died after collapsing while on an onshore oil rig, reports said.
Police confirmed Nicolas John Teague, 39, from Rotorua collapsed while on the oil drilling derrick about 40 metres off the ground at the Mangakewa E wellsite in Tikorangi, news agency APNZ reported.
Emergency services were called to the scene, near Waitara, at 830am on Sunday, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Teague was employed by field contractor MB Century, whose chief executive Marcel Manders said there were no indications as to why he collapsed.
A statement from the New Zealand-owned explorer said that “Todd Energy expresses its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and colleagues”.
The incident has been referred to the local coroner and is under investigation by the police and employment health & safety regulator WorkSafe New Zealand.
