17 August 2013, News Wires – A man working at a conventional drill site in Ohio, United States died after he fell 50 feet from a rig in Coshocton County, according to a report.
The 27-year-old reportedly slipped and fell while working on the rig near West Lafayette, Ohio, around midnight on Thursday morning. The death was ruled an accident, the local Times Reporter newspaper reported.
The victim was identified as John Roberts. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene at 1:13 am. The county coroner said Roberts died from serious head injuries as a result of the fall.
Roberts was an employee of FMS Drilling, the newspaper said. Sennecaville, Ohio-based FMS was contracted by NGO Development, a subsidiary of local conglomerate the Energy Cooperative.
“NGO Development Corp is saddened by the tragic loss of life at our drilling site in Coshocton County,” NGO vice president and chief operating officer Dan McVey said in a statement.
“NGO… is working closely with FMS Drilling, the sub-contractor on the site, while they investigate and co-operate with (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration) on the cause of this tragic accident. Safety is of paramount importance to NGO Development Corp and the entire oil and gas industry,” McVey said.
In February, 28-year-old Abdal Audeh was killed after being struck by unsecured cable at an oil well operated by Rex Energy in Carrol County.
