28 March 2014, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, has claimed responsibility for the sabotage of repair works on the Shell Forcados Sub-C pipeline in the Western Delta.
MEND, which said it attacked the pipeline first on March 1, stated: “We were successful in causing further damage to the on-going repair works, inflicting the heaviest toll ever on the oil industry since the commencement of ‘Hurricane Exodus,’ it said in a statement.
MEND also took responsibility for last Thursday’s attack on the Agip crude oil and gas pipelines in Ikarama Oil Fields located in Bayelsa State.
Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, on March 25 declared force majeure on liftings of Forcados blend due to ongoing repairs on the 48-inch export line at the Forcados export terminal in the western Niger Delta.
