06 August 2013, Lagos – Mobil Producing Nigeria, MPN, operator of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation/MPN Joint Venture and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, have agreed on a mutual working relationship in areas of safety and other services.
This new partnership was brokered when the MPN Shore-base Operations, Onne, Port Harcourt recently received the new Regional Manager, in charge of all the airports in the South-east and South-south regions in Nigeria, Mrs. Ebele Okoye, during a familiarisation visit to companies operating within her region of operation.
Receiving the team, the Shore-base Manager, Capt. Victor Nduonofit, said the NNPC/MPN Joint Venture was delighted at the visit of members of FAAN.
He made an overview of the shore-base operations as a logistic base for the movement of materials/equipment to and from offshore locations.
In her safety presentation, Shore-base Safety Coordinator, Ruth Agbo, gave a summary of MPN Life Safety Rules emphasising on safe driving procedures and speed limits.
She also encouraged the staff of FAAN to take safety seriously as safety was a way of life, adding any action not safe should not be undertaken so as to ensure “Nobody Gets Hurt”.
In his remarks, the Shore-base Logistics Coordination Supervisor, Mr. Apollos Anugwa, stated shore-base provided flawless support for offshore materials movement and on-shore operations acting as a conduit through which goods and materials flow in the safest possible manner.
He stressed over the years, the joint venture had had a cordial and good working relationship with FAAN through its aviation-related activities, noting Shore-base operates mainly through NAF Base and Omagwa International Airport, Port Harcourt and the NNPC/MPN Joint Venture manages rotary and fixed wing operations.
Public and Government Affairs Manager, Port Harcourt/Bonny River Terminal (PH/BRT), Mr. Adeyemi Fakayejo, said NNPC/MPN Joint Venture was committed to being a good socially responsible corporate citizen in its host communities in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States as well as in Nigeria in general.
He stated the joint venture possessed robust community relations activities in infrastructural development and empowerment.
Fakayejo made a presentation on the corporate social responsibility, CSR, profile of NNPC/MPN joint venture (and ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria) including annual scholarships awards to 500 undergraduates as well as 20 postgraduate scholarship awards through its sister company Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and enjoined staff of FAAN to encourage their wards to participate in the scholarship programmes.
In her response, Okoye expressed her gratitude for the warm reception accorded to them calling for FAAN and MPN to be partners in progress.
She said there was now a positive effect by the federal government on the aviation industry saying FAAN’s topmost priority is to provide quality service delivery to its customers hence management’s decision to move personnel across different locations.
Okoye emphasised the key focus of FAAN was safety and security as FAAN had zero tolerance to insecurity and would ensure that people coming to the airport were confident in the safety of their lives and property.
