Lagos — Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has inaugurated a $2 million Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Compressed Natural Gas (L-CNG) facility in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Managing Director/CEO, of Nasarawa Investment Development Agency (NASIDA), Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the $2 million investment by Greenville LNG is the first of its kind in the North Central region of the country and has 23 metric tonnes capacity of LNG and 1,500 standard cubic meters of L-CNG.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Sule expressed optimism that Greenville, owned by private investors, was bringing alternative and cheaper energy sources, especially at a time when the cost of petrol was soaring higher following the removal of fuel subsidy.

He said the gas project will lead to the conversion of petrol engines to gas, especially for heavy-duty trucks, as well as smaller vehicles such as commercial motorcycles adding that the project was in line with his administration’s commitment to make Nasarawa a prosperous and economically developed state.

Managing Director of Greenville LNG, Ritu Sahajwalla, represented by the Director of Administration of the company, Joseph Oyadoyin, pointed out that the project will further crystalize the industrialization drive of Governor Sule as it would bring more investment to the state.

He said: “The partnership between the government and Greenville LNG aims to promote a virtual gas supply for businesses and individuals in Nasarawa State and by extension, the North Central region of the country. The project will usher in the introduction of LNG and LCNG usage for heavy-duty trucks as well as smaller vehicles such as automobiles and Keke NAPEP in the region, as fuel prices have skyrocketed since the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May. It is also poised to improve the transportation industry in Nasarawa State because it will address fuel shortages and enhance gas usage and distribution within the region.”

He also disclosed that Greenville LNG would establish another facility in the Karu Local Government Area of the state after the completion of the first project in Lafia.
