13 May 2015, Abuja – The Managing Director of Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, Mr. James Olotu, has blamed the current low capacity of its power plants on persistent vandalism of gas pipelines in the country.
Olotu, yesterday at a forum for Generation Companies (Gencos) in Abuja, noted that the 10 NIPPs were dependent on gas and therefore, are lowered in capacity with the incessant vandalism of gas pipelines.
It will be recalled that the Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, last month said the National Integrated Power Projects, NIPPs, had contributed about 2,159 megawatts (mw) to the national grid after four plants including the recent 504mw Alaoji plant were commissioned in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
