14 January 2014, Yenagoa — The new Commander of the Joint Task Force codenamed Operation Pulo Shield, Major-General Ilyasu Abbah, has pledged to work hard to rid the Niger Delta of crude oil thieves, illegal refinery camps and sea pirates.
Major-General Abbah made the pledge, weekend, at the JTF headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, while taking over the command of the special security outfit from Major-General Bata Debiro, who recently retired from the service.
The new JTF Commander, who described the Niger Delta as the hub of the nation’s economy, said as a special operational unit of the country’s security forces, it has the mandate of the Federal Government to protect the oil installations in the region.
