08 October 2013, Lagos – As Nigeria’s privatised power sector continues to attract local and foreign investment, Deepdrill Global Services in partnership with Maclean Power Systems (MPS) of the United States is introducing into the Nigerian market, world-class power solutions to eradicate incessant outages and system failures associated with out-dated generation, transmission and distribution facilities.
Chief Executive Officer of Deepdrill Global Services Limited, Mr. Francis Isibor, told journalists in Lagos at the weekend that the partnership was aimed at providing non-ceramic technology, popularly referred to as composite technology to support uninterrupted power supply for all Nigerian households and businesses.
Isibor said Maclean Power Systems products had been used to service utilities of some of the world’s most respected utilities in over a 100 countries, where the solutions had been deployed for over 40 years.
According to him, MPS range of products being deployed for Nigeria will ensure total uninterrupted power supply due to their inherent advantages. He listed some of the advantages to include the aerodynamic shape of the sheds, thus preventing pollution particles from collecting on the insulator and the fact that their insulators were designed to withstand full power arc across the insulator up to about 20 times the fault energy found in transmission and distribution lines.
Isibor also noted that as composite silicone technology, the products had the capacity to endure sugar cane fire burn, adding that the insulation is maintenance-free with no pin corrosion. “MacLean Power Systems has produced more silicone composite insulators for extra high voltage (EHV) applications than any other manufacturer in the world.
Utilities from countries such as China; Ute (Uruguay); Red Electrica (Spain); Eskom (South Africa); EOS (Switzerland) and others from the United States have purchased, and are using MPS silicone composite insulators on some of their most important transmission lines,” he explained.
“One of our many strategies employed by the management of the company to ensure that these solutions are made available for industry use is that we would be exhibiting at the coming 4th Nigeria International Power Expo & Conferences (NIPEXPO), taking place at the International Conference Centre, in Abuja next week”, he added.
He urged the relevant stakeholders in Nigeria’s power sector to utilise this technology at this crucial time when the sector was undergoing the much-needed reform, with inflow of local and foreign investment.
Isibor said only non-ceramic technology would eliminate incessant power failures militating regular power supply in the country.
