08 August 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos —Freshly obtained data has shown the differences in the quantity of gas produced, the gas utilized and the gas flared between 2012 and 2016.
Impressively, figures revealed that Nigeria achieved a great feat in its gas flaring reduction in 2015, as it dropped from over 400 million standard cubic feet in 2012 to below 400 thousand mscf in 2016, according to data from Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
In 2012, gas produced was 2, 966, 036, 072 mscf, while in 2013, it dropped a little to 2, 325, 137, 499 mscf.
In 2014, it increased a bit to 2, 524, 268, 44 mscf.
2015 witnessed a high volume of production which stood at 3, 003. 179 mscf while in 2016, production again, shot up to 2, 711, 803, 306 mscf.
Gas utilised in 2012 amounted to 2, 330, 779, 433 mscf, 1, 916, 531, 001 mscf in 2013, and 2, 234, 668, 430 mscf in 2014.
In 2015, it decreased to a total of 2, 672, 247 and increased to 2, 404, 095, 858.60 mscf in 2016.
On the part of gas flaring, 2012 had the highest figure with 465, 256, 639 mscf flared, while in 2013, a total of 409, 311, 430 mscf was flared.
In 2014, it reduced to 289, 600, 014 mscf flared.
A drastic reduction occurred in 2015 with a maximum of 330, 933mscf flared, while it shot up to 29, 648, 382. 48 mscf flared in 2016.
