25 October 2013, Yenagoa — Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigerian Police have arrested four persons, among them a lawyer, over their alleged involvement in the theft of over 2,000 metric tonnes of petroleum product suspected to be Automated Gas Oil from a facility belonging to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company in Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
The lawyer, simply identified as Angelo, is Lagos-based and counsel to one chief, said to be on the run and wanted by the Bayelsa State Police Command over the illegal movement of the stolen petroleum product from Bayelsa to Lagos.
A source in the Joint Task Force, codenamed Operation Pulo Shield, said the lawyer and three other persons were arrested at an area known as Outside Bar in Lekki Area of Lagos, while negotiating for the transfer of the stolen product to a foreign buyer.
The source said: “They had successfully moved the vessel from the Bayelsa waters into the Lagos axis. The surveillance team were detailed to allow negotiation for sales to commence before their arrest.
“We could not apprehend the Chief as he escaped.”
