21 March 2016, Abuja — A civil society organization, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has asked the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to withdraw hundreds of letters of employment issued following what it called “a seriously flawed recruitment process”.
In an open letter to Mr. Emefiele, the organization requested him to put in place a system of recruitment and hiring based on the principles of non-discrimination, transparency, participation and objective criteria such as merit, equity, and aptitude.
The letter dated March 18, 2016 signed by SERAP’s Executive Director Adetokunbo Mumuni, warned that if Mr. Emefiele and the CBN failed to act as requested within 14 days of the receipt of the letter, registered trustees of the organization would take appropriate legal action to ensure remedies for millions of Nigerians that had been denied equal opportunity to participate in the recruitment process.
