31 May 2018, Sweetcrude, Delta State — The Nigerian Navy shipyard, NNS Delta, has handed over a vessel loaded with 386,000 litres of allegedly stolen crude to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Warri, Delta state.
Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu who handed over the vessel said it was arrested by his men on January 31 this year, adding that nine Nigerian crew members were also arrested.
He said the Navy had to hand over the vessel and crew members to the EFCC for prosecution.
Fielding questions from newsmen aboard the vessel Commodore Dewu appealed to those behind oil theft on the waterways and creeks in the state to quit their illegal activities, warning that the Navy would ensure they faced the wrath of the law when arrested.
He also said the Navy would continue to take steps to flush out the miscreants and oil thieves from the waterways.
Senior Detective Superintendent of the EFCC, Mr Richard Ogberagha who led others from the Commission to receive the vessel and crew members said the body would commence investigation for all details on the vessel and those arrested, adding that prosecution would commence as well.
