    Nigeria’s gas output rises by 1.72% to 149BSCF in one month

    Dublin, Ireland — The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) stated that total gas output by oil and gas companies operating in the company appreciated by 1.72 per cent to 148.591 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) in September 2022, from 146.081 BSCF in August 2022.

    The NNPC, in its gas production and utilisation data for September 2022, stated that the total gas output for September 2022 translated to average daily gas output of 4.953 BSCF, compared with 4.869 BSCF recorded in the previous month.

     

    According to the national oil firm, 105.768 BSCF of gas was associated gas (AG), while 42.823 BSCF was non-associated gas (NAG).

    The corporation noted that 140.444 BSCF of gas, representing 94.52 per cent of the total gas output was utilised in the month under review, compared with 135.978 BSCF, representing 93.08 per cent of total gas produced in August 2022.

    Under the total gas utilised segment for September, the NNPC stated that 8.823 BSCF of gas was used for fuel gas; 48.314 BSCF was utilised by the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG); 8.563 BSCF was used by the Escravos Gas to Liquid (EGTL) project; and 2.402 BSCF was used for Natural Gas Liquids/Liquefied Petroleum Gas.

    In addition, the corporation reported that 22.575 BSCF of gas was allocated for domestic supply through the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) and others; while 49.766 BSCF of gas re-injected and utilised for gas lift make-up.

    On the other hand, the NNPC stated that 8.147 BSCF of gas was flared in the month under review, representing 5.48 per cent of the total gas output for the month, compared with 10.103 BSCF of gas flared in the month of August.

    Mobil emerged the highest gas producer in the month under review, with total output of 24.993 BSCF of gas, out of which it utilised 23.380 BSCF of gas and flared 1.613 BSCF of gas.

    Shell Nigeria followed with total gas output of 24.871 BSCF of gas, utilising 24.314 BSCF and flaring 0.558 BSCF; Chevron Nigeria produced 23.691 BSCF of gas, out of which it utilised 23.479 BSCF and flared 0.211 BSCF of gas; while Total Energies Nigeria produced 22.890 BSCF of gas, out of which it utilised 22.273 BSCF and flared 0.617 BSCF of gas.

    Conversely, the NNPC disclosed that Seplat Petroleum Development Company and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company-Chevron Nigeria joint venture emerged the worst offender in terms of gas flaring in the month under review, as they flared 100 per cent of their entire gas output of 106 million standard cubic feet of gas and seven million standard cubic feet of gas, respectively.

    Furthermore, the corporation noted that Newcross Exploration and Production Limited and Belema Oil flared 95.85 per cent and 75.21 per cent of their 112 million standard cubic feet of gas and 21 million standard cubic feet of gas, respectively.
