23 August 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA – GOVERNORS of Nigeria’s northern states have established a committee to advise them on the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, ow before the legislature, awaiting consideration and passage into law.
Headed by Ahmed Monsur, the committee is expected to scrutinise the contents of the PIB and advise the governors on its implications for the people of the region.
Chairman, Northern Nigeria Governors Forum, who is also the Niger State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, said these at the end of a meeting attended by governors from the region in Abuja on Wednesday.
“We set up a small committee to look at the PIB law as it affects the northern states. That committee will look at the bill, which is before the National Assembly and the implications of that bill as it affects our welfare and our citizens,” he said.
Aliyu refused to state whether the region, through its legislators in the National Assembly, would give the bill the necessary support to ensure its speedy passage.
