The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has denied that it had closed or relocated its Maiduguri and Gombe depots because of security reasons.
In a statement, issued by its Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, Dr Levi Ajuonuma, the corporation said workers of the Pipeline Products and Marketing Company (PPMC) in Maiduguri and Gombe were encouraged by improvements in the security situation in both locations.
It urged those peddling the rumour to desist and appealed to members of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and other stakeholders to immediately resume normal activities.
The corporation gave an assurance of uninterrupted supply and distribution of petroleum products in the states, adding that PPMCand NNPCMega stations in Maiduguri and Gombe would continue to serve the public.
It commended the staff of PPMC in Maiduguri and Gombe for their patriotism and dedication to duty.
“ We have staff, who have put their lives on the line to serve our customers in both locations,’’ their dedication is highly appreciated,’’ the statement said.
Some fuel stations had allegedly gone on strike following speculations that the PPMC in Maiduguri was planning to relocate its operations to Gombe for security reasons.
