Sam Ikeotuonye 23 August 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Company, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, has hinted of the action of some fraudsters involved in circulation of fake letters of crude oil allocation to defraud people.
Baru said members of the public should be careful with such people as he disclosed that the action of the fraudsters had become a source of serious concern for employees of the Crude Oil Marketing Division of the NNPC.
He spoke in Abuja at the presentation of commendation letters to 12 workers of the Crude Oil Marketing Division, COMD, of the corporation in Abuja, according to a statement by NNPC’s spokesperson, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu.
Also speaking on the development, Group General Manager, COMD, NNPC, Mele Kyari, said the fraudsters operated by sending fake crude oil allocation letters illegally using names of senior NNPC officials and requesting their prey to pay certain cash deposits as commission on volume of crude received.
He said: “The gullible individuals end up paying huge sums of dollars into these accounts as commission but the reality is that nobody allocates crude oil on a piece of paper the way the scammers canvass in their dubious letters. Everything about crude sale is electronic and real time. If you have your cargo, the whole world knows.”
