18 September 2018, Sweetcrude, Warri, Delta State — Pensioners of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Warri have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to order the management of the NPA to pay them 19 years arrears of their pension increment and harmonization.
Addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, Mr. John Deine said President Buhari and the national assembly should quickly intervene so the management of NPA could release the sum of 34 billion Naira captured in this year’s budget to clear the arrears for pensioners in Warri, Owerri, Port Harcourt, and Lagos.
He said pensioners were having the most challenging moment of their lives as they could hardly pay their medical bills, afford minimum comfort because of the harsh economic realities facing them due to the non-payment of their arrears.
“We are by this medium pleading with the President of the federal government, the National salaries income and Wages Commission and all other relevant arms of the government of Nigeria to prevail on NPA management to have a rethink and have mercy on our people and pay NPA Pensioners their pension entitlement
Our fear now is that if the federal government does not act fast the 34 billion in this year’s budget would still not be disbursed to pensioners”, he pleaded.
