    NSCDC arrests politician, 2 others for oil theft in A/Ibom

    NSCDC09 January 2014, Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, said that it had arrested a politician and two other suspects in connection with alleged oil theft in Akwa Ibom.

    The Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr pedro Ideba, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom.

    Ideba, who declined to disclose the names of the suspects, said the culprits used sophisticated method in committing the act.

    He said that the suspects were arrested last year following a tip-off, adding that they were caught while trying to adulterate petroleum products.

    “In the process of mixing the chemicals, we arrested two tankers using hydrometer in testing the premium of the products,” he said.

    Ideba said items recovered from the suspects included; a Mercedes Benz car, pumping machine and two tankers.

    He said that suspects were arrested on Ibiakpan Junction in Ikot Ekpene-Itu road.

    The commandant said officers and men of the command had been trained on how to check the activities of vandals in the area.
