Mkpoikana Udoma 05 January 2015, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Rivers State Command, says its operatives have apprehended 658 suspected oil thieves, destroyed 27 illegal refineries and impounded three well heads in 2015.
The Rivers state commandant of NSCDC, Mrs. Helen Amachree said in its bid to curb the illegal activities going on along the petroleum pipelines in the state, the command has successfully charged 229 criminal cases to court, in which a total of 33 suspects have been sentenced to prisons in 22 convictions between January and December 2015 and leaving a total of 207 cases pending for trial.
A statement issued on Tuesday by Mrs. Amachree and signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oguntuase Michael, said the suspects are currently serving different jail terms in the Nigerian prisons.
