13 February 2019, Sweetcrude, Warri — The oil-rich Polobubo/Tsekelewu communities in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta state have appealed to the state government to construct Trans-Egbema-Opuama-Polobubo-Ogbudugbudu – Polobubo roads.
Speaking at a programme where the state government took delivery of a cottage hospital built by Chevron Nigeria Limited, the National President of Polobubo/Tsekelewu National Association, Ebilate Mac-Yoroki urged the government to dredge the river in the area.
He also called on the government to prevail on oil companies in the area to link the community to the power in their flow stations and other facilities.
“Today our river has been silted to less than a meter in depth during the dry season. The freshwater has been replaced by salt water from the Atlantic Ocean, destroying economic trees and vegetation that provided the people with a lucrative livelihood.
“We appeal to the state government to dredge the waterways, reclamation of new Polobubo. Since the river transport system has been destroyed, we plead that you construct a major Trans-Egbema Road from Opuama to Polobubo – Ogbudugbudu -Polobubo.”
The communities also enjoined the government to install the 1000kva generating plant from Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC
“The installation of the 1000kva generating plant, supplied by DESOPADEC, which is currently lying idle. The installation of the generating plant should be considered as a temporal answer to our power problem, on a permanent ground, there are existing electricity and good water facilities in the various oil platforms or flow stations, the governor should direct these companies to connect all the host communities with these facilities. This won’t impose any excessive cost on them”, he said.
