06 February 2014, News Wires – Oman’s National Gas has confirmed that its chief executive, who was detained over the weekend, is being held on suspicion of bribery.
Goutam Sen, which the Muscat-listed player names on its website as the chief executive, is accused of bribing a government official, the company said on Tuesday.
National Gas had said on Monday that it had been informed by authorities that the boss was being held by the public prosecution.
The company requested answers from the prosecution about the detention, receiving a response on Tuesday.
“The board also wishes to reassure the shareholders that the business would run as usual and they do not expect any financial implications on the company due to this development,” the statement read.
“In the meantime, the finance controller of the company would be acting on behalf of the chief executive so that routine operations of the company do not get affected.”
National Gas lists Nalin Chandna on its website as its head of finance.
