Port Harcourt — Members of Gbaramatu Youth Council at the weekend disrupted activities of at Ekeremor manifold in OML 42, operated by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Ltd, NPDC/Neconde JV, in protest over employment and empowerment.
The protesting youths in their numbers stormed the manifold on speed boats and canoe, displaying placards with different inscriptions such as “No employment, no operation,” “Gbaramatu youths’ marginalization must stop,”
Other inscriptions on the placards include, “No youths inclusiveness, no movement of vessels,” “NPDC/NECONDE employ our youths, we have qualified graduates,” among others.
Leader of the protest and President of Gbaramatu Youth Council, Mr. Shadrach Ebikeme, said the youths will continue to protest until all necessary issues relating to employment and empowerment are resolved.
Ebikeme explained that they were also demanding for community development, youth employment, empowerment and award of contracts to the indigenes of the communities.
