23 June 2013 – One worker is dead and another injured after a partial rig collapse at a drillsite in Howard County, Texas, according to local authorities.
The county sheriff’s office identified the deceased as Felipe Saiz, 40, of Big Spring,according to a statement published by the local CBS 7 affiliate.
Responders were called out at around 10:15 am Wednesday to the site, where a second man was taken to a local hospital with unidentified injuries.
The rig was owned by Heartland Drilling of Abilene, while no operator was disclosed, according to the sheriff’s office, which could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.
“The accident investigation was turned over to OSHA,” the sheriff’s office said, referring to the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Big Spring is about 45 miles north-west of Midland.
