25 January 2019, Sweetcrude, Lagos — The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, Mohammed Barkindo has urged oil-producing countries, investors and practitioners in the oil and gas sector to respond positively with facts and figures.
Barkindo made the call in a statement on the sideline of a meeting in Davos on Friday.
According to him, there is a need for quick response with facts and figures to facilitate communication in the sector.
He said the oil and gas sector were not communicating effectively.
“There is no doubt and there is a consensus coming here in various meetings in Davos – that our industry is literally under siege and the future of oil is at stake,” Barkindo said.
“The industry needs to come together and respond positively with facts and figures. We are not shying away from the fact that we have not been able to communicate well,” he said.
Reuters had earlier reported that the OPEC chief listed two key topics on sector’s agenda – climate change and pressure from investors.
The solution he said was to lure investors with higher returns and raise the Public Relations game.
