Mkpoikana Udoma 18 November 2015, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt – The National Human Right Commission, NHRC, wants President Muhammadu Buhari to open a national dialogue on the Ogoni question with the intent of addressing the key issues raised in the Ogoni Bill of Rights.
Chairman of the NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, also advocated the exoneration of the Ogoni nine (Ken Saro Wiwa and eight others) executed in 1995 by Nigeria’s military government for speaking up against the environmental terrorism in Ogoniland, orchestrated by the Shell Petroleum and Development Company, SPDC.
Odinkalu who made the call at a public lecture in Port Harcourt to mark the 25th anniversary of the Ogoni struggle and 20th anniversary of the hanging of the Ogoni nine, also called for territorial equity, infrastructural development as well as a proper compensation for the Ogoni people.
