Mario Vinicius Claussen Spinelli, a professor with a wealth of education and experience at local government level, has gotten the nod over a list of candidates.
A civil engineer and mathematician by training, Spinelli was one of several professionals chosen as candidates by global executive recruitment firm Korn Ferry. Petrobras’ audit committee and remuneration & successions committee then scoured the list before making their recommendations to the board.
Spinelli has a master’s degree in Public Administration and a PhD in Public Administration & Government from the Getulio Vargas Foundation. He is a civil servant of the Office of the Federal Comptroller General (CGU) and has worked for the CGU in the state of Minas Gerais, holding a number of positions, including secretary for strategic information and the prevention of corruption.
As comptroller general of Sao Paulo he was responsible for the restructuring of the municipal ombudsman.
Petrobras had said in May that is had begun looking for a new general ombudsman as well as starting the process of adopting an independent reporting channel, whereby a third party would handles complaints.
The Rio de Janeiro-headquartered giant remains mired in a historical corruption scandal that has led to a massive investigation into its contracting process.
