    Petrol price surges by 76.99% in December 2024

    Port Harcourt — The average retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in December 2024 soared to N1189.12, reflecting a 76.99% increase compared to the N671.86 recorded in December 2023, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

    However, on a month-to-month basis, petrol prices saw a slight 2.06% decrease from November 2024, when the average retail price stood at N1214.17.

    Among states, Taraba recorded the highest petrol price at N1307.05, followed by Adamawa at N1301.33 and Delta at N1282.71.

    In contrast, consumers in Oyo State enjoyed the lowest average price at N1088.75, with Abuja at N1102.25 and Ogun State at N1106.07 also reporting relatively lower prices.

    The North East zone topped the regional price chart with an average of N1245.90, while the South West Zone had the most affordable petrol prices, averaging N1116.00.
