04 June 2016, Yenagoa – The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bayelsa State Command, on Friday, launched a manhunt for militants that attacked crude oil pipelines in the state.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. Desmond Agu, who confirmed attacks on oil pipelines operated by Nigerian Agip Oil Company, said the corps had deployed some operatives in the creeks of Bayelsa.
The new militant group in the Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Avengers, has claimed responsibility for attack on Agip’s Ogboinbiri-Tebidaba and Clough Creek-Tebidaba Crude Oil pipelines in Bayelsa on Thursday.
Explaining further, Agu said, “The pipelines located within Agip’s oilfields were attacked. We got the reports that the pipelines were attacked when they had been shut down, so there is no loss of crude or leaks.
“We have dispatched our men and we have intensified patrols in the area. We are working round the clock to protect critical infrastructure in Bayelsa.”
A new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, had claimed responsibility for the incident in a message from the group’s twitter handle on Thursday.
Eni, parent company of Agip has yet to respond to an email requesting its reaction to the attack..
Effort to get reaction of spokesman for the Joint Military Force, Operation Pulo Shield, Col. Isa Ado, was not successful as his mobile phone did not connect.
