12 February 2014, News Wires – Protesters have shut pipelines from the Wafa condensate field in Libya with threats of a new blockage at the giant Al Sharara field, according to a report.
Flows of light oil condensate from Wafa to the port of Mellitah have been halted although there is no production shut-in, Reuters reported, citing an oil workers’ trade union source and state player National Oil Corporation (NOC).
The Wafa field produces around 30,000 barrels per day of condensate. The pipeline to Mellitah was already blocked by protesters at Nalut in January.
Protesters have also reportedly threatened to block flows from the Al Sharara field, which only last month saw a resumption of flows following a shutdown.
Output had fallen to 250,000 bpd from 1.4 million in July. The field’s normal output is 340,000 bpd.
