Warri, Delta State — Polobubo/Tsekelewu, one of the major oil and gas bearing communities in the Niger Delta has appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to site development projects in the area.
“We have handed our request over to our Senator and we are confident he will deliver it and also follow up on them to see that they are delivered,” National President, Polobubo (Tsekelewu) National Council, Ebilate Mac- Yoroki disclosed in a statement.
He frowned at the failure of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to honour an invitation to the area, adding, the community wants the governor to accede to the request contained in a ‘Welcome address’ sent to him.
He said the community was grieved that the governor came to a nearby community on the day they had their event, saying they were not happy that he later left the area, delegating Senator James Manager, representing Delta South in the Senate to represent him.
The event was the commissioning of projects built by Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, for the area.
“As painful as it is for us, because we have invested a lot into preparing for the governor’s reception, we believe what is important for us as a community is that all our requests are speedily taken into consideration and actions are taken promptly.
“Making provisions for our immediate needs, as spelled out in our welcome address to the governor, will be an apt compensation for what we have sacrificed, besides the fact that Polobubo is a major oil and gas host community. We will continue to calm our youths down, telling them that we will get our due and that we trust our governor, notwithstanding his inability to make today’s visit”, he said.
