Lagos — Abubakar Aliyu, Minister for Power, has called for an emergency meeting with power generation companies, Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Distribution Companies, DisCos and other stakeholders over current poor power supply across the country.

The meeting which held in Abuja on Monday amid blame trading among TCN, DusCos and GenCos, and announcement of grid failure, saw the minister telling all in attendance to work together to make electricity more stable.

Others at the meeting include the Nigerian Bulk Electricity’s Trading, NBET, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Shell and others in the power value chain.

“This meeting was summoned to address the current electricity situation in the country which we are not happy about”, Aliyu said.

“We must find a solution so that Nigerians will have electricity. I want us to have the patience to talk to each other, not blame each other.”

Aliyu assured that government will not relent in its efforts to make sure that improvements in the power sector are sustained so that electricity supply improves across Nigeria.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC had informed its customers of the grid shutdown.

“A system collapse has occurred on the national grid at 10:40 am today, leading to outages across our network.

“We are working on the situation with our TCN partners and will keep you updated. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused”, it reads.
