07 November 2013, Abuja – Vice President Namadi Sambo has said the participation of the private sector in the electric power sector reform programme would bring about higher generation capacities.
He said this will be achieved through the provision of more efficient and cost effective power stations and improvements in electric power distribution, transmission networks, billing and collection.
According to a statement from Head, Communications of the Bureau for Public Entreprise (BPE), Chigbo Anichebe, Vice President Sambo, who doubles as the Chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), disclosed this at the physical handover of the Ughelli Power Plc to the core investor, Trans National Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) Plc in Ughelli, Delta State.
Represented by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka N. Wogu, Sambo pledged government’s commitment to creating the enabling environment that will incentivize private sector investors to ensure quality and cost effective service delivery to the Nigerian electricity consumers.
In his address, the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel E. Uduaghan, noted that the handover of Ughelli Power Plc was the greatest thing that had happened to Delta State in recent history.
