26 December 2014, Nairobi – KILIFI deputy speaker in Kenya, Teddy Mwambire has urged residents to resist any plans by an energy firm to survey their farms.
Speaking to the Star on phone yesterday, Mwambire said Camac Energy Kenya should await approval by the county government.
“This company is going round Kilifi, including Sokoke ward, Ganze subcounty, claiming to be exploring for oil,” he said.
Arabuko Sokoke forest is said to contain huge deposits of oil and gas.
Mwambire accused the company of ignoring the deal “simply because they claim to have gotten clearance from the national government”.
He said he will go to Sokoke and ask the company to move out.
Mwambire said the county government must be involved in projects within its jurisdiction.
