Port Harcourt — The people of Ezekohia-Ozuzu community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, have charged an oil palm firm, Siat Nigeria Ltd. to expedite action in the electrification of the community.
Members of the community alleged that the firm has adopted all forms of delay strategy to deny them of their own share of rural electrification project.
Speaking, a woman leader in the community, Nwanyawu Davison Pristina, also alleged that they have been denied of employment, scholarships and water supply despite facing many environmental hazards from activities of the company
“No electricity, skills acquisition, water or youth empowerment, our youths are suffering. Our mothers now travel far and near to buy farmlands for cultivation.
“My husband is not working, I am not working and Siat has taken all our lands that we are supposed to use for cultivation, now there is no more land for farming,” she said.
Meanwhile, the management of Siat Nigeria Ltd is yet to respond to these allegations.
