14 August 2014, Warri—Some residents of Sapele and its environ yesterday protested the blackout that has enveloped the town for more than one year.
The protest led by a group known as Save Sapele Group, called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the Power Minister to, as a matter of urgency, call the Benin Distribution Company, BEDC to order over the issue, failure of which it says it might not have no option than to shut down the Sapele Power Station.
The leader of the group, Comrade Omasan Mabiaku, during the protest in Sapele said; ”We are giving the Federal Government and the private firm 14-day ultimatum to restore power supply to all parts of Sapele and it environs, because we cannot be generating light to other parts of the world without having it.
“We are appealing to Mr. President and the Hon. Minister of Power to kindly intervene to save this ungodly situation that the BEDC has thrown Sapele.”
