The company said this will be implemented under Kenya electricity expansion project and will entail construction of new 7.5 MVA substations in Kibos, Ahero, Maseno, Majengo and Chepseon in Kericho County.

“To improve reliability and create capacity for new connections, the Company has recently completed three new substations and refurbished five existing ones in the region at a total cost of Sh404 million,” said Kenya Power’s acting managing director Ben Chumo.

“The new substations are Kisii Town, Kakamega and Cheptulu in Vihiga; and the uprated ones include Mamboleo in Kisumu, Ingotse in Kakamega, Ikonge in Nyamira and Kegati in Kisii.”

He said the new Bomet substation was constructed at a cost of Sh191 million to meet the county’s growing demand and improve quality of power supply.

Kenya Power said it has a capacity for connection of seven new power lines to supply Siongiroi, Kapkwen, Kembu, Olbutyo and Chebole towns and the neighbouring areas.

The company is under pressure to improve its service by ensuring a stable supply of power to boost business activities as Kenya pursues the development agenda under the Vision 2030 plan.
