*NLNG says gas export not affected
07 August 2015, Sweetcrude, Lagos – Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, a subsidiary of the Anglo/Dutch oil giant Shell has declared force majeure on gas supplies to Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, on Bonny Island in Rivers State, Nigeria.
While explaining the development, Mr. Precious Okolobo, a spokesman of Shell Companies in Nigeria disclosed that the action was due to a pipeline leak from one of the sources of supply, adding that this was being investigated.
“Shell declared force majeure on gas supplies from SPDC to NLNG (Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Co), effective August 4,” Precious Okolobo said.
He noted that the development will not affect production activities at the NLNG since other pipelines supplying gas are still operational.
Also speaking on the development, Tony Okonedo, a spokesman for NLNG also said that exports had not been affected, adding however that the company was discussing potentially rescheduling some shipments with its customers.
