04 March 2014, Lagos, Abeokuta and Ado-Ekiti — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State has arrested six owners of filling stations in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, for allegedly hoarding and selling petrol products above the official price of N97.
The command’s spokesman, Kareem Olarewaju, told Daily Trust yesterday that the arrest was made by the taskforce which was set up by the command last week to monitor activities of petrol stations. He said the action followed a directive by the commander of the NSCDC, Zone F, Oladapo Amujare. Olarewaju said upon receiving the directive, the state command set up teams to go round petrol stations. He added that so far, 56 petrol stations have been visited within Abeokuta metropolis.
The state’s spokesman said the action of the petrol station owners is capable of creating chaos among the public and sabotaging efforts of the Federal Government at ensuring availability of the products.
He appealed to members of the public to assist the command with information that could enable it carry out its duties effectively.
