12 July 2013, News Wires – The Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE, announced Friday that approximately 50 students from across Europe will take part in the organisation’s inaugural Europe Petro League – a competition for university students studying oil and gas-related courses.
The competition, which the SPE said is the first of its kind in Europe, will see teams of students battle it out over six rounds for a $3,000 (GBP 2,000) prize. The rounds will include analysing case studies and fast-paced questions about the oil and gas sector.
Entries for the qualifying first round are currently open, with the deadline being July 27. To qualify the teams must submit an essay that discusses one of four specified industry topics.
SPE Aberdeen Young Professionals Co-Chair Nikhil Shindgikar commented in a statement: “SPE Aberdeen’s YP committee has experience of organising events during Offshore Europe and the committee is delighted to launch the first Europe Petro League during such a high profile event.
“SPE’s Gulf Coast Section has run the PetroBowl, a similar type of event, for students in the US for the past 12 years and has seen the competition significantly increase in success, with a record 36 teams taking part this year. We felt that it was important for an event of this type to be brought to Europe to give our students a chance to demonstrate the extent of their knowledge.”
