30 October 2014, News Wires – Statoil has applied to the authorities to drill a wildcat near its under-development Aasta Hansteen gas field in the Norwegian Sea as it pursues more resources to shore up the project’s economics.
The state-owned player intends to drill the 6706/12-2 well at the Snefrid North prospect, one of several identified in production licence 218 that hosts the Aasta Hansteen field.
It will use semi-submersible Transocean Spitsbergen to drill the probe, due to be spudded in the fourth quarter at the earliest in a water depth of 1312 metres.
Statoil holds a 75% operating stake in the licence with partners OMV and ConocoPhillips on 15% and 10%, respectively.
