27 August 2015, News Wires – Statoil has been granted a permit by the authorities to drill a wildcat at the Gasol/Gretel prospect in the mature North Sea off Norway.
The state-owned explorer aims to drill the 25/11-28 probe using semi-submersible Songa Trym next month in its operated production licence 169, about 14 kilometres north of the under-development Johan Sverdrup field, after getting the green light from the Norwegin Petroleum Directorate.
The primary objective of the well – the 15th wildcat to be drilled in the licence – is to prove up hydrocarbon potential in the Jurassic-aged Gasol and Permian-dated Gretel prospects in a water depth of 115 metres.
A sidetrack and possible appraisal could also be drilled in the event of a discovery, with drilling expected to take about 45 days.
Statoil operates the licence with a 37% stake, with partners Petoro and ExxonMobil on 30% and 13%, respectively.
