12 August 2015, News Wires – Statoil has been granted a permit by the authorities to drill a wildcat at the Knappen prospect in the mature North Sea off Norway.
The 16/7-11 probe, which gained safety clearance earlier this year, will be drilled using semi-submersible Songa Trym in Statoil-operated production licence 072B.
It will be drilled about four kilometres of the Sleipner East field to a targeted depth of 2680 metres in around 80 metres of water, with an estimated duration of 39 days including permanent plugging.
The well will be the second exploration hole drilled in the licence, which was awarded to the state-owned operator in 2001.
