02 October 2013, News Wires – BP’s Ultimate Field Trip for students interested in gaining experience in the oil and gas industry has expanded to include five countries.
Launching the 2014 competition late Tuesday, BP said that students studying STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects from universities in Angola and Canada will now be allowed to compete alongside teams from the UK, the US and Trinidad & Tobago.
Rigzone reported in late August on the experiences of three winning teams from the University of Strathclyde, the University of Illinois and the University of the West Indies after they visited BP installations in Norway and the UK.
The Ultimate Field Trip 2014 winning teams from each of the five countries taking part will experience a two-week field trip in Alaska and Chicago.
Commenting at the launch, BP Group Head of Resourcing Paul McIntyre said: “The Ultimate Field Trip competition offers STEM students the opportunity to explore how their degrees apply in a real world situation. Year on year we are looking at ways to develop the competition to ensure that the students have the opportunity to gain a truly meaningful experience from taking part In the UFT.
“I am really excited by this yearโs competition, with five countries now involved and a fantastic challenge; it will be great to see what ideas the teams come up with.”
