12 December 2014, Abuja – The Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment Programme, through its Community Service, Youth and Women Empowerment arm, held a job fair for unemployed graduates in Lagos.
After a six-month call for entries, staged under the Graduate Internship Scheme, the fair began on Monday and ended on Thursday. The programme runs at the Welcome Centre Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos for potential employees residing on the mainland.
Prospective employers who had registered online met with graduates from various disciplines below age 40 who were willing to undergo a year of internship and consequently secure their dream jobs.
According to the SURE-P convener, Community Service, Women and Youth Employment, Audu Maikori, the fair gave an opportunity to assess candidates whose curriculum vitae had been previously acknowledged by the verified companies.
Maikori said, “Over 850 registered graduates are matched daily with companies offering services or products where their skills are needed. At least, there are over 60 companies recruiting at the job fair everyday.”
He continued, “there were over 25,000 registered graduates and we would have fixed appointment for between 3,000 and 4,000 the first week. We have verified and ensured that all the companies we considered for this fair are competent ones with the ability to mentor people.”
