KUNLE KALEJAYE 10 September 2014, Sweetcrude, Lagos – The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has assured the people of Maiduguri, Damboa, Biu and the environs in Borno State, North Eastern Nigeria that it is taking proactive measures to remedy the power outage being experienced there since mid-July, 2014.
The outage was caused by a cut conductor on the 132kV transmission line from Damboa to Maiduguri as well as a 330/132kV transmission substation in Damboa which was set ablaze in June, 2014.
A statement by the Management of TCN explained that with the necessary security and logistic support from the Federal government, the company has already organized materials and mobilized manpower to carry out necessary repairs on the transmission line as well as the reconstruction of the burnt transmission substation.
However, the statement also explained that due to the magnitude of the repairs required, work on the transmission line and substation may take up to eight (8) weeks to be completed.
The release further stated that TCN has also put in place urgent plans to complete the 330kV transmission line from Gombe to Maiduguri and the new 330/132kV substation at Maiduguri to enable it supply electricity through the 330kV transmission line to Maiduguri and environs.
Also a 150MVA, 330kV transformer meant for Maiduguri substation would now be moved from the Shiroro Substation en route Abuja to Maiduguri. The contractors and in-house engineers that would ensure speedy repairs are set for the task.
TCN re-assures the good people of Maiduguri and environs of the federal government’s determination to ensure a robust and efficient transmission system nationwide (Borno State, being an integral part of Nigeria is not an exception), noting its preparedness to promptly attend to any fault in its transmission system, in order to continue to efficiently wheel power to Distribution load centers nationwide.
“TCN sincerely regrets the inconveniences to the esteemed customers of the affected areas in Borno State and reiterated its commitment to the quick resolution of the problem,” the statement stated.
